Rieth-Riley Interests the young

Devin is 9 and is in the third grade.  This was a voluntary science fair, with prize donations from the community.  So there really were not any winners.  Devins project was basically about how asphalt roads are recycled.  He had some photos that showed the process from start to finish; milling, processing, mixing it at the plant and placing the new mix.  The samples below showed everyone the products involved and the general process from start to finish.  On the other side of the board, he explained where asphalt comes from (oil refining), what natural resources were saved by recycling and the cost savings associated with recycling.  Devin didnt need much coaching from me, he has been around asphalt plants and gravel pit all his life.  I can remember him in his car seat, while I was working on an airport night paving job in Ohio, taking it all in at 3.  To this day, a weekend out can be a trip to the plant and the gravel pit looking for rocks or just sitting with dad at the lab.
